While the past 5 years of his career have been in perioperative medicine, acute pain management, and anesthesiology, his medical career has been experienced across a broad spectrum of healthcare and medical background that has led him to a passionate interest in treating the whole patient and optimizing individual health and wellbeing.

His interest in medicine began prior to medical school in the medical mission field where he provided medical support in Peru, Brazil, Honduras, El Salvador, Nepal, and other countries. He continued his work in the mission field throughout his medical training at Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine where he experienced everything from field surgery to primary care in urban medical centers in many different countries. Dr. Rhoades began his residency at VCU Hospital/MCV Medical Center in Internal Medicine and then Anesthesiology.

It was here that he began to hone his skills and build his interest in multi-modal pain management and ERAS protocol-driven perioperative patient management as well as ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia and acute pain management. Over his time in perioperative patient care, he built an interest in regional anesthesia and nerve blocks, patient pre-operative optimization, multi-modal pain management, trauma, cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, and pediatric surgery.

Dr. Rhoades continued to find his passion in partnering with his patients to optimize their overall health and well-being while preparing for procedures or treating their pain. He went on to study the advanced fellowship program in anti-aging, metabolic, and functional medicine. In addition to pain management, Dr. Rhoades specializes in functional medicine, metabolic management and hormone balancing, anti-aging and preventative medicine, sports performance medicine, weight management, and regenerative medicine. In addition to his medical practice, Dr. Rhoades runs a men’s health and wellness blog and partners with men on their journey to realizing their potential and improving their health. He is currently studying career burnout and early interventional therapies and preventative protocols for this emerging and worsening stress complication.
